A: North Star Academy (NSA) is an accredited high school. NSA students receive a high school diploma.
Q: How many classes does an NSA student need to take each quarter of school?
A: NSA students must enroll in at least 4 classes each quarter to maintain full-time status.
Q: Are all students eligible to participate in independent study?
A: Students must show that they can succeed as independent learners and must meet both GPA and attendance criteria to be considered for participation in NSA and to remain in the program. Enrollment in independent study is optional; no student can be required to participate in independent study. Refer to the California Department of Education website.
Q: My student was told they are not eligible for NSA. Is ACUSD required to offer an independent study program?
A: LEAs may choose but are not required to offer an independent study option. Refer to the California Department of Education website.
Q: Are NSA students eligible for NCAA (college sports)?
A: ACUSD students need to be full-time students at either Argonaut or Amador and meet NCAA requirements.
Q: Can NSA students work and receive credits? (work experience)
A: North Star students can enroll as guests (blend) at Amador or Argonaut to take their Work Experience class. North Star can also issue work permits for these students. Refer to the Course List for NSA classes.
Q: Can students at NSA graduate early?
A: NSA students can graduate after finishing their required courses. Students may return for the graduation ceremony in June regardless of when they finished their coursework during the same school year.
Q: How many classes can an NSA student take as a guest (blending) at the comprehensive site?
A: Full-time NSA students can take up to three classes as guests at the comprehensive sites.
Q: How many classes can an NSA student take for Dual Enrollment through College Connect?

Q: Can NSA students take advanced Math/Science/World Language courses?
A: NSA students can guest (blend) at the comprehensive site or take courses through Dual Enrollment with College Connect. The A-G requirements for many advanced courses need to be met by taking a course from a fully credentialed teacher in that subject area. NSA offers a full scope of courses to meet graduation requirements but not all four-year college and university requirements. Refer to the Course List for NSA classes.
