The ACUSD/ACOE Community Newsletter is a weekly communication from the Amador County Unified School District and Amador County Office of Education. The purpose of this newsletter is to keep our families, staff, and community members informed about our district!

District News & Announcements

No School Monday & No Early Release Wednesday 🔔

Our schools and offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.

Due to the Monday holiday, there will be no early release on Wednesday, May 29. All schools will follow the regular day bell schedule.

 

Educational Services Staff Receive Challenge Coins

Michelle Pechette, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, awarded ACUSD Challenge Coins to Malinda Hemig (administrative assistant), Sonya Backovich (student success technician), and Erika Simmons (community partner from The Resource Connection).

The 2024 Communication Survey is still open through Tuesday, May 28th. 

We invite every family member, staff member, student, and community member to participate in the survey and give us their feedback. The survey is short and completely anonymous.

School Site News
High School Students Recognized for Community Service Hours

Seniors from Amador and Argonaut High School were recognized for their many hours of service to our community. Students with 135 hours of service or more were formally recognized before the board and given awards according to their total number of hours. This year, our seniors alone completed a total of 12,000 hours of community service!

New Vice Principal at Ione Junior High for the 2024-2025 School Year

The Amador County Unified School District is pleased to announce, pending board approval, the appointment of Daryl Lee as the Vice Principal of Ione Junior High School for the upcoming 2024-25 school year. Candidates for this position were interviewed by a panel composed of Ione Junior High School staff and colleagues representing our organizational bargaining units. 

Daryl began his career as a classroom teacher in the Stockton Unified School District and currently provides inspired service as a classroom teacher at Ione Junior High School. He has held several leadership roles while at Ione Junior High School, including AVID Coordinator, Athletic Director, and School Site Council President. Daryl's dedication to student success and safety drives his professional decision-making process.

We look forward to Daryl's leadership and the positive impact that his work will have on the Ione community.

Why Lead Testing is Vital 🩺

Most children with lead in their bodies have no obvious symptoms. If you think your child has been exposed to lead, ask your child's doctor about getting a blood lead test. MediCal and most private insurance covers the cost of blood lead testing.

School Board Updates

The next School Board meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 12, at the Amador County Administration Center located at 810 Court St. Jackson, CA 95642.

Student Board Member Maeve Klement

The board recognized Maeve for two years of service as a student board member! Maeve graduates in June from Argonaut High School as co-valedictorian. Last week, she won the section girls singles championship at the Sac-Joaquin Section Tennis Championships!

Congratulations to Maeve for all your accomplishments; it has been an honor to have you serve on the school board for these past 2 years.
